My first Tail Dragger time!

9/21/2008

Well, it's been quite an adventure! Today I went with my friend Rob, we went to Mesquite Texas. The flight to Mesquite was uneventful, that wasn't the adventure part. The Big adventure is the reason we were going over there. Rob, is working on his tail dragger endorsement. So, once we got to Mesquite, I got to ride along while he did some training in a tail dragger. an Arrow 200 to be exact. That was quite an experience. It's amazing to me the minute differences between other airplanes and tail draggers. They taxi differently, it took a lot more Rudder to taxi than in the other airplanes that I have been in.

9/22/2008
We stayed the night in Mesquite and we did more tail dragger time the next day. We did more take-off and landings. It was a great time, and then we came back home. It's always nice to return home!

And now, I have tail dragger time!

Flying with cargo

9/18/2008

Today I flew with my friend Paul, who hauls cargo. We flew out of KPSN and he even let me fly some. We left late at night, no one else was around, it was odd to leave the airport with no one to wave goodbye to me. We left about 7:00pm. We flew into Tyler Pounds Field (KTYR) and picked up more cargo, then we flew into DFW. Paul let me fly some while he tried to fix some navigational problems the airplane was having. It was fun to fly, but I wasn't nervous because I knew if I couldn't handle it paul was there and he would take the controls back. WOW! What an airport DFW is. There were a lot of REALLY BIG airplanes, and lots of runways and taxiways. A little bear could really get lost there. After following all of our directions and taxiing, we finally got the cargo dropped off and the airplane shut down. We called it a night and went to bed.

The next morning we got up bright and early and reversed our route. We started out in DFW, then we went to Tyler again and dropped off some cargo, then we went to Palestine and dropped off their cargo. It was a nice flight, and I was glad to be home. Good to see familiar faces.

If you ever think airports don't have any significance to the community, you have to ask yourself "Do I appreciate my overnight packages?" I didn't realize that people flew odd hours to get those packages to me. What an interesting experience.

My First Soft Field Landing

9/7/08

So, After flying with my friend Emery in his baron yesterday, we decided to go flying again today just for the fun of it. We went to a private landing strip "Dillard" on the Houston Texas Sectional. His Fiance Jacklyn went with us this time.

Emery hadn't done a soft field landing in his baron, so it was a first for both of us. The field was kind of difficult to find at first, but when we found it, we went on in and landed. It was a really neat trip, and I really enjoyed landing there. We stayed and visited for awhile, and then we left. Emery did a good job of taking off on that grass strip.

It was a really neat place to go, and I reccomend you go visit if you get the chance. The airfield is commonly known as Critters Lodge and they are having their annual fly-in on September 26-28 2008. For more information on that visit: www.critterslodge.org

Airplane shopping with Simon

9/6/08

My Friend Simon has been shopping for an airplane. Well, he found one he wanted to go look at today. So, My friend Emery offered to fly him to go look at it. Our Friend Ron, came along also.

I got to fly in a Baron this time. It's a cool airplane. Nice and cozy. We went to Lakeview Airport to look at an airplane. My friend Simon spent all day looking at an airplane, but he decided he had to think more, so we came back. So far, Simon hasn't found an airplane that suits his needs.

Maybe next time he'll find one, Maybe I can tag along on the trip.

First flight with commercial pilots

8/28/08-9/6/08

Well, this was a really fun trip! I got to fly with my friend Matt, in his King Air. Matt is a commercial pilot. He picked me up in Palestine and we flew to Dallas. We got to navigate around 2 thunderstorms. While in Dallas we went to Lake Grapevine and spent the day. It was lots of fun.

It was more than a week later before I got to come home, and I was getting kind of homesick. It was real interesting to me though flying in and out of Class B airspace. Man there was a lot of conversing back and forth with the controllers. And they don't like it if you aren't paying attention. I heard them talk to some guys who weren't paying attention. They must be new at this flying thing. Not me, I'm becoming and old pro. Take me with you on your next trip.

Went Fishing!

8/23/08

What a great day!

Today my friend John took me for a ride in his 172. We went from Palestine to Palacios Texas. It's another town on the coast. We went fishing in the bay and had a grand ole time. He also brought his friend Shane with him. It was a great day to hang out with "the boys". We caught us some nice reds.

When we came home, it wasn't such a fun flight. My friend John left the window open the whole time, and I got a bit of a sunburn. But hey, Flying sure is fun. As of now, I have 9.4 hours in an airplane.

First IFR flight!

8/15/08

Wow, It's been awhile since I got to fly. I almost Forgot how much fun it is! Today my friend Cheryl and her 2 sons took her Husband Rob to go pick up their piper Cub. She let me tag along. We flew in their Bonanza! (That's a really great plane).

The weather wasn't so great today. It was cloudy and rainy, and I was really dissapointed because I didn't think we would get to go. But we did, because Cheryl is instrument rated. So, I got to see what it was like to make my first IFR flight. We took off on Runway 18. There was light rain. We went to Sulphur Springs Texas. We dropped her husband Rob off, and one of her sons so they could fly his Piper Cub home. (Maybe someday I can fly in that airplane, but I'm a little skeptical of the open cockpits)

When we left Sulphur Springs, the weather was much improved. We flew that VFR. there was still some light to moderate rain, but it was still a nice flight. We took off on Runway 18 and landed in Palestine on runway 36. This was a fun flight.

I really liked flying in the Bonanza. The best part, one of Cheryl's sons signed my log book. That signature is a keeper!!!

First Airplane Ride!

7/12/2008

Wooh-hooh! Today I got to take my VERY FIRST airplane ride. I was so excited. My friend Johnny took me up in his Bellenca S. Viking. Wow! What a plane! We flew from Palestine to Port Aransas Texas! I didn't know the Texas Coast was so interesting. It was a really great flight. It's great to have friends like Johnny. I hope I get to fly with him again soon. Wonder where the next place I will go is?
